Peugeot surprised fans by unveiling the Polygon, an extremely futuristic-looking concept car described by CEO Alain Favey as “a new chapter in the history of Peugeot”.

According to information from Car Magazine, the concept signals the next evolution in Peugeot design and is likely a teaser for the new Peugeot e-208, along with a new steering system expected for 2027.

The Polygon was presented by the French automaker on the morning of last Monday (November 10) through the game Fortnite. The unusual launch was specifically intended to reach a younger audience.

Now, the concept appears in Fortnite on Peugeot’s “Polygon City Island”, which is shaped like the brand’s new futuristic rectangular steering wheel, the Peugeot Hypersquare. The Polygon, according to Matthias Hossan, the brand’s design director, received its name for being a “car with many sides”.

With the launch, the brand essentially confirmed that the electronic steering system (steer-by-wire) will arrive in production models in 2027. If this happens, Peugeot would become the first Stellantis brand to introduce this technology to the market.

The Hypersquare represents the new generation of the i-Cockpit. The concept eliminates the mechanical steering column and instead controls steering rotation through electric motors.

Removing the steering column results in a lower dashboard line, expanding the view of the road ahead, where a head-up display will replace the traditional instrument cluster.

According to Peugeot, the steering response varies according to speed, with exaggerated rotation at lower speeds. This means that parallel parking should require no more than half a turn of the rectangular wheel, which, according to the brand, provides a sensation of “hyper-agility”.

Inside, conventional seats were replaced with 3D-printed racing seats, each made of three parts: a shell, a frame, and molded foam — all customizable and easy to swap.

On the outside, the car retains Peugeot‘s signature claw-shaped lights, but this time they were reinvented as three horizontal micro-LED strips that stretch across the front and rear, configurable with various graphics and colors. However, it is unlikely they will be used in the production model.

The short, boxy proportions and the C-pillar are reminiscent of the 205, while a large glass windshield spans the entire length of the car, also functioning as a massive infotainment screen.

Although Peugeot has not yet officially announced the new generation of the 208, the Polygon was certainly presented to give fans a taste of what is coming next.
